So the intial download when starting Guild Wars
So I grabbed a key for GW:GotY edition.
I downloaded the client last night and created my character this morning... The download last night took about an hour or so. Now so far this morning after creating my character it looks like it's going to be like triple that time... I don't remember it being that big the first time I played back during retail release... Also is there any faster way to download the file/s ? |

If you install all of the game discs you won't have to download as many, but it's going to take a while either way. A lot of folks here will add "-image" to the command line whenever there's an update. It forces the client to download ALL files in the game, making for 0 download times and pretty fast load screens. Just remember to remove it when you're done so you can actually start the client.
As far as download time goes, leave it on for the night or for an evening. It might suck if you are really wanting to play, but you only have to wait it out once. |

Yep, just take your shortcut to your Guild Wars that's on your desktop and right-click it. Select properties and then find the `Target` box. It should have a pathfile something along the lines of

you can add the -image command to your shortcut so that it downloads all the files before you start playing. I would say thats your best bet.
But no there is really no way to download the files faster and the reason it is longer that when you first played is because it has to download files from all the additional content since you first played. Edit: Ninja'd twice! |

yes, right click the shortcut go to properties > in the target: section after the text in quotations put -image and the next time you run gw it will download ALL of the missing files so you dont have the annoying additional downloads while entering instances.

Yeah I found that was hoping there a site hosting all the updates or something :-/
My ingame bar is showing the download speed at about 45kb/sec :-( when I know my connection is faster then that. |

I would like to point out that you can keep the -image shortcut by creating a second shortcut to GW and renaming it. Whenever there is an update, I just run the GW Image shortcut first, then start the game from the GW shortcut.
